Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts the Friday Fave Five, a round-up of posts about people’s favorite happenings of the week.
Here are mine from this week:
1. Homeschooling. There has been a rich harvest from homeschool this week. Seven year old Amara who has joined us till her mother leaves in at the end of May keeps writing love letter to the effect that she loves Ben, Joanna and her teacher (me). I find them on white boards, scraps of paper, even on my computer. Benjamin snuggling next to me on the couch gave me an excited cuddle and thanked me once again for giving him the Usborne New Reader book on Ancient Egypt which he was reading to me. As we sat around the diningroom table having supper, talking about what we had liked most about the day, Joanna said homeschool. It’s been awhile since homeschool reached top of the charts.
2. Goodnight prayer. Joanna’s goodnight prayer one night this week, “Thank you Jesus for a lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely day. I love everyone in the whole wide world. ”
3. Making amends. Having been on a war footing on Sunday, it was nice to make amends with he who shares my bed.
4. Socialising at Saima. I have a fairly static social life currently. Largely due to the large turnover of friends here in Quelimane, with roughly fifteen fairwells in the four years we have lived here. In the month of May alone three more farewells will be added to this, with a farewell gathering this Sunday. So it was fun to chat with three people at Saima, a pavement cafe, on Monday. Mirth comes easier with more then one. A friendly waiter greeted me like a long lost friend. One of the people has had malaria for 6 weeks and literally looked half the man he once was, but with the help of Quinine is out and about.
5. Palm-tree shadow. First thing in the morning, from the comfort of my bed I can see the large shadow of a towering coconut palm projected against the white wall of the Catholic Cathedral across our street. It’s a welcoming way to start the day. Yesterday at 5.45am, I went out and about to take a photo of the shadow for this post. I loved being out in the cool air, witnessing the pedestrian and bicycle bussle and hussle as groups of school children make their way to school.
Wonderful FFF list. I love the pictures and nothing better than to make amends. Have a great weekend. Rabbit, rabbit
What a fabulous prayer! It reminds me of Anne in Anne of Green Gables. It is so good to be thankful. Love the palm shadow shots! How sweet that Homeschooling topped the charts! Blessings…

Number 3 cracks me up! We all need to do that now and then. And your daughters prayer is so sweet. I love that palm tree. . . how nice to wake up to that.
Your list really made me smile. The spontaneous expression of children’s love and thankfulness is heartwarming!
Saying good bye to friends and aquaintences is diffifult. That is a lot of people to say goodbye to in a short period of time. It’s nice that you got to do something special with them.
Love the pic of the shadow. That must be one huge tree!
I just wanted to add I went to your about page and saw that your header picture is The Great Rift Vally. That was so cool as one of my favorite fiction books is about the Great Rift Valley and how an archeologist thinks it is the Garden of Eden and how he tries to prove it. It’s called “Rift in Time” by Michael Phillips. Your picture is beautiful and I’m glad I now have that to put with the story!
Great Fave Five! I homeschooled my children and it was one of the happiest times of my life–snuggled up reading, exploring through books, nature and field trips, seeing the lightbulb turn on with understanding! (That’s why I’m still a teacher)
I love the palm tree photo!
Have a Happy Week!
I love the nighttime prayer! So sweet.
And I agree, there’s nothing better than making amends.
What a cool picture of the palm tree! I love it!
By the way, I like your blog header photo, too.
God bless and have a great weekend.
I am sorry to hear that so many of your friends are leaving and that probably adds to your stress with your husband. Praying that God will draw you near and bring you the fellowship your woman’s heart desires.
I love the goodnight prayer post, my daughter Laney has just recenlty started singing her prayer its too cute!
First of all, you have a wonderful blog name and a beautiful banner.
Second, I really enjoyed your fave fives! Number 1 really made me smile — I love it when that happens around here. The picture in Number 5 is incredible.
Great list. I love the goodnight prayer -so sweet.
I also really like the palm tree shadow. That is too cool.
That photo is great, and I loved the prayer. 🙂
